J. B. Holmes Iron Swing Analysis

J. B. Holmes is another player who recently appeared on the PGA Tour with a power swing.
JB does “crouch” over the ball more than some of the other tour pros.
At takeaway, JB goes a lot inside the red plane line, sorta reminds me of John Daly.
At the top of his iron swing, JB is perfectly online with the red plane line.
Half-way down, JB is slightly outside the red plane line, coming slightly over the top. (He will have to re-route his club somehow to hit the club…find out why on the next screenshot)
At impact, JB has to “dip and crouch” a little to get back to the ball from the inside. This might be the only “bad” part about JB’s swing. The more “dip and crouch” action he does, especially on the irons, the harder it will be to maintain his swing in the long run and when he gets older, it will cause a lot of back problems.
JB does well after impact, proving he swung slightly inside-out.
His finish looks great.
The only thing JB is doing wrong is the fact that he is not standing “tall” to the ball at address and especially at impact. I wouldn’t change his swing if he’s winning PGA tournament right now but if he wants to keep playing after he turns 50 and keep winning, he might want to consider getting a little “taller” like Stuart Appleby.
Now this is for his short iron shots. Dipping slightly okay for the longer clubs like a Driver but if JB is dipping on his short irons, he might be missing out on some extra accuracy and precision from his shots.
