Ernie Els Driver Down-the-line Swing Analysis

Ernie Els dubbed “Big Easy”, does have one of the best swings in golf and here’ why.

Ernie Els Driver Down-the-line Swing Analysis

At takeaway, Ernie is slightly inside the plane but that’s okay.

At the top of Ernie’s swing, note that his hands line up with the red plane line perfectly.

Also note the green lines that show where the club is pointing and his stance is.  The two lines are about “parallel”.  This is usually a good way to tell if your backswing is online or not.

In Ernie’s case, he is perfect!

Before impact, Ernie is well inside the red plane line, meaning his going to hit this ball real hard with a nice draw.

After impact, Ernie is in perfect balance and his club is slightly outside the red plane line, a perfect inside-out hit indeed!

If you took look carefully, you probably wouldn’t notice that this was Ernie or Tiger, almost identical!

At finish, Ernie shows his signature over the neck finish and standing nice and tall, perfectly balanced.

What to learn from this?

What most golfers failed to realize how “soft” tour pros swing.  Look at Ernie, he’s probably only swinging 50% of all his raw power.

That’s right, if you are swinging more than 50% on most of your shots, you are losing a lot of balance and trying to hit it too hard.

Next time you are on the course or the practice range, try swinging 50% of all your power.  I bet you that you will hit the ball about the same but with much greater accuracy and a smooth rhythm.

I have heard from a few older female pro’s that Mickey Wright’s swing was the envy of most prominant male pro player’s in her prime and was used as the yardstick for the ideal swing. Had she been playing today her talents and money winnings would eclipse those of anaka, et al. Would love to see flim and swing analysis of this forgotten yet amazing talent.
