Well, there's really 2 schools of golf swing planes in the pro golf world right now, one using the belly, the other using the shoulder. But in my honest opinion, both really have no meaning as pros have played in different planes. The most important thing you should realize is that there's no such thing as a "perfect" plane, that's a myth. A swing plane is only a concept so you can build a consistent backswing, that's the only real "purpose". Everyone will have a slightly different plane depending on what grip use and how your body is built, no 2 players will ever use the same plane, although a lot of teachers are trying to teach golf that way, I think it's not for everyone. Well, my 2 cents. :)

You always start the red line on the shoulder. As I see there is no valid reason for doing that. For instance if you were to follow tiger's clubhead path, the center of that circular swing path would be the belly not the shoulders. In fact I doubt that anybody has the center of the circular motion on the shoulders, the only one I have seen is Moe Norman's swing, and it look pretty unnatural too me.

[...] His takeaway breaks down, swing is too flat, and this might be okay for him to stay on the tour but if he wants to keep winning, he needs a major swing overhaul and get on-plane like Tiger here. [...]
