Golf Book Review – Advanced Golf by Greg Norman!

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

If you want to get your game to another level, one of the MUST READ golf instructional books is Advanced Golf by Greg Norman.  Before Tiger Woods came into golf, Greg Norman was the #1 golfer in the world.  Well, Greg Norman might have failed in a lot of majors but I don’t think it’s his game that caused that rather something “mental”.  Regardless of how he came up short at majors, he’s still regarded as one of the best golfers ever lived along with Jack Nicklaus and Ben Hogan.   At least in my book he is still one of my golfing heroes.

I grew up watching Greg Norman beat virtually everyone and I betcha Tiger Woods has this very book in his bookshelf somewhere, probably autographed by Greg himself. I know for a fact that Tiger looked up to Greg Norman and learned a lot from him before he became the #1 golfer in the world.

Anyways, if you are going to get this book, make sure to get the hardcover version as it will last you longer, I still have my same book I bought back in 1995, still good as new after 14 years. :)

Let me tell you a little bit about the book though, it’s a great book because Greg Norman features his iron swing and driver techniques in detail, especially made for those golfers who are trying hard to break 90, 80, or become a scratch golfer.

This book was also written while Greg Norman was taking lessons from Butch Harmon.  (and Tiger started taking lessons from Butch before he started winning everything…)

FYI, Tiger Woods started golf when he was 2, Greg Norman started when he was 15 years old!  If you count how many years it took Greg Norman to win a professional tournament versus how long it took Tiger, you will get what I mean how talented Greg Norman is.  If Greg only started golf a bit earlier, we would never find out.

Anyways, this book is definitely a classic and I am sure it will be a classic for years to come.  If you are a hardcore golfer, this is a MUST to have in your bookshelf.

Get it on Amazon here, and make sure to get the HARDCOVER if you are hardcore golfer! (there’s an option for that)

Greg Norman “doesn’t” win the British Open, but watch out…

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

Greg Norman doesn’t win the British Open today but it was a exciting 1st 3 rounds watching one of my golfing heroes battle it out at 53 years old.

What’s amazing is that Greg has just broke through his 15-year old dryspell of bad rounds.  Heck, he is now officially playing the next year’s Masters.

If Greg Norman practiced before this week’s Open, he might have won by 5 or 10 shots.  Even with Tiger Woods around, he probably would have won for sure.

Now, it’s up to Greg Norman to believe in himself again and win couple more majors before he really “retires” from major golf.

The same couldn’t be said about Rocco Mediate because it’s different.

Heck, Greg Norman is capable of breaking any of that old-age records.  He just proved it to us.

Maybe his last round 77 wasn’t one of his best but I will be waiting for some more top finishes from the former #1 golfer of the world.

Congrats to the winner but I think Greg Norman probably “won” in his terms, outlasted every one of the best golfers of the world.

I look forward to couple more 54-hole leads on Sunday from Greg.

Greg Norman Leads British Open by 2 – About to Become the Oldest Player to win a Major!

Saturday, July 19th, 2008

Wow, what a tournament.  I just finished watching the 3rd round of British Open as Greg Norman finishes up with a 2 shot lead and a 72 today.

What impressed me wasn’t the fact that he is 53 years old, it’s the fact that he’s able to turn back time to his 1986 Turnberry British Open championship.

I know if this was the Masters, Greg Norman wouldn’t have a good chance going into the final round but in this case, with Norman 2 shots ahead, it’s as good as in the bag.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Greg Norman eventually wins by 5-7 shots tomorrow.  He might be old but he’s still more in shape than most 30 year olds.  Plus, he knows how to win a British Open.

Well, I hope I am not wrong tomorrow and let’s see one of our favorite golfers win one of his last majors tomorrow.

Go Greg Norman!

Friday, July 18th, 2008

Remember my post on Greg Norman’s first round?  Well, it seems like he’s hit another even par and at the top of the leaderboard, one behind K.J. Choi.

Another great news is that David Duval is doing good.  He’s been slacking the last couple years but it seems like he’s getting his game back on his favorite golf tournament.

I still would like to see Greg Norman set the world record for the oldest man in history of golf to win a major.

Is it possible?

Yes, I think the way Greg Norman’s mindset is, it’s going to work.

Before, Greg used to put too much pressure on himself and pretty much beat himself.  As long as he doesn’t do that and I don’t think he will, he should be able to come up at this year’s British Open.

Go Greg Norman! :)

British Open – Can Greg Norman Win It?

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

The news around the block is that Greg Norman might be able to win this year’s British Open if he only believed in himself again.

The former British Champion, Greg Norman, is 1 off the lead by shooting an even par today.

I believe Greg Norman has couple majors that the golfing world owes him.  At numerous majors, Greg Norman either got struck by lightening (metaphor here that is) or he simply gave it to the guy standing next to him.

I thought Greg Norman would have won many more majors if he only believed in himself again.

I mean for like 10 years or so, he was the shark.  Perhaps, Tigers do scare away sharks but come on.

It’d be like my dream come true if Greg Norman could win the Open this weekend at age 53.

Maybe that’s just my speculation but what the heck, Greg deserve one for sure.

The greatest part about today’s internet is the fact that we can look back at history at the click of a button.

Here’s Bob Tway’s chip shot that went in to beat Greg Norman by one shot.

This is the reason why you need to keep playing golf until the last putt is holed. (or the last bunker shot in this case)
