LPGA Tells Players they must speak English!

Friday, August 29th, 2008

LPGA has just announced a new rule that requires all LPGA members(players) to speak English.  Players who cannot communicate in English will be suspended.

Here’s a funny quote:

“Being a US-based tour, and with the majority of our fan base, pro-am contestants, sponsors and participants being English speaking, we think it is important for our players to effectively communicate in English,” Galloway said.

Now, I must disagree with this US-based fans.  LPGA is not simply for Americans it’s really for the world to see.

If LPGA “thinks” its viewers mainly consist of English speaking people, think again please as a big portion of LPGA viewers also come from Korea, Sweden, and other home countries of LPGA players.

I personally know about a thousand people who watch the LPGA in Korea around 3am simply because of the time difference.

What LPGA really need to do is fire the person who made this stupid rule that is simply prejudice from my standpoint and my upbringing in the United Stated after having moved here at age of nine.

To whoever decided to make this stupid rule that is obviously prejudice against players from non-English speaking countries:

If you simply cannot stand all the Swedes and Korean stars that are taking over the LPGA, quit your job and do something else but don’t tell me you are going to stump on some of the best international LPGA players’ faces by telling them you can’t play if you can’t speak English.  Don’t waste my fuckin’ time with you bullshit rules, this isn’t golf this is prejudice bitches.  Sorry to be brutally honest but you were being brutally prejudice.

I can tell you that I know this hurts international players more than anything else as English wasn’t my first language either.

Anytime you want to single out a group of race or people, think about this first, “What if I was one of them, would I want to be treated like this?”

It’s a perfectly clear prejudice of another person simply based on where he/she is from, not who he/she is.

This form of prejudice must be stopped in any professional golf or sporting event.

My great peaceful life was going great until this morning I heard this, and I have to say this unjust rule must be gone very quickly.  Stupid LPGA officials, that’s what I say.

For now, we will have to wait and see what Florida laws say about discrimination based on someone’s LANGUAGE for god sakes:

But if Korea’s most famous female player was broadly supportive, some civil liberties activists in the US claimed a language requirement could violate state law. “Florida law prohibits discrimination in public accommodations,” said Howard Simon, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union in Florida. “They may well violate Florida discrimination laws because language is a key element of person’s national origin. People should be judged on their ability to perform a job. English fluency has no more to do with the ability to play 18 holes of golf than whether you walk 18 holes or ride 18 holes.”

LPGA Pro Natalie Gulbis has a blog!

LPGA Pro Natalie Gulbis has a blog!

Well, it turns out LPGA Tour pro Natalie Gulbis has her own blog where she writes as often as she can.

She hasn’t really won any big tournaments lately but since I am a fan, I hope she does soon.

Check out here latest blog posts here.

One thing I notice though was that Natalie must have some good webmasters.  (Take a look at Tiger’s website, it’s all in flash and so SEO-not-friendly.  Whoever did Tiger Wood’s website must be one of the worst webmasters ever.  Even I could do it much much better)

Michelle Wie Playing in the Reno Tahoe Open

Well, the biggest news this week is probably the fact that Michelle Wie is playing a PGA tournament, that of Reno Tahoe Open against over 100 best players in the world.

Well, they may not be the best players considering that the World Golf Championships are going on, but still, you’d kill to even play one of those events.

The weirdest part is that I wasn’t rooting for Michelle Wie after I heard that she will be playing this week.

Well it gets weirder as now I want Michelle Wie to play good and make the cut.

As weird as that sounds, you may be thinking the same thing, rooting for something that looks impossible just like Tiger won the U.S. Open this year on his impossible knees, or the fact that Greg Norman held 54-hole lead at the Open.

Whatever the case, this week is probably the most important for golfers for Wie to play well, or at least keep up to her early reputation as the future-Tiger of LPGA.

Michelle Wie Playing in the Reno Tahoe Open

Michelle Wie Playing in the Reno Tahoe Open

It’s a wonder that Michelle Wie hasn’t won an LPGA Tournament.  Perhaps, Michelle Wie is not Tiger Woods of women’s golf or at least until she proves otherwise.

After the bad break of being disqualified at her last LPGA tournament, Michelle Wie will be playing in the men’s PGA Tour event coming this weekend at the Reno Tahoe Open.

Of course, most of the top players in the world won’t be there as they will be at Firestone Country Club to play the World Golf Championship.

Still, I wish Michelle Wie the best of luck beating the men at Reno Tahoe Open.   It’s going to be near impossible I’d say since she’s not used to playing longer golf courses with much tougher competition.  Even Annika Sorenstam, the former #1 player of the world for couple decades, failed to make a cut on the PGA Tour.

The point is not that a woman can make a cut on the PGA Tour but the fact of life is that men do hit the ball longer by nature and it’s certainly not fair for the women to play from the same tees.

If Michelle Wie makes the cut this weekend, that might start a whole new plethora of LPGA tour pros who might start asking for sponsor’s exemptions to play on the PGA Tour.

Go figure, if I were her, I’d concentrate on making the LPGA Tour first.  You can always play with the men but you don’t get infinite number of sponsor exemptions even with the LPGA.

Crap, Michelle Wie should have finished top 5 last week.  LPGA Officials can take their stupid rules and shove it somewhere I guess.

China to host first LPGA tournament in October!

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

China will be hosting its very first LPGA tournament this October. Although LPGA is held in many other countries, it’s nice to see it held in China, not that I’d want to go there.  (just my personal preferences)

World number two Annika Sorenstam will top the bill when China stages its first LGPA tournament, the $1.8 million Grand China Air in October.

Golf has boomed in the world’s most populous nation in recent years and six men’s European Tour co-sanctioned events took place in greater China last year.

The new event will take place from Oct. 24-26 at the Hainan West Coast Golf Club in Haikou, the capital of the island dubbed “China’s Hawaii”.

Sorenstam, who is bowing out of competitive golf at the end of this season, said the new tournament would be a major milestone for the LPGA.

In Bee Park – Korean Golfer Wins Women’s US Open!

In Bee Park - Korean Golfer Wins Women\'s US Open!

It’s not that often a 19 year old wins a U.S. Open, except that InBee Park just did it.

She’s a 19 year old Korean American who has won many other events including 2 U.S. Girls Open in 2002 and 2003, a feat matched only by likes of Tiger Woods.

I did notice her name couple years back but it looks like she has finally broken through by winning a major.

As for female Korean professional golfers, they now now have won 3 of the last 10 U.S. Opens, making them second in the number of U.S. Opens won next to the American ladies in the last 10 years.

Not a bad feat as a whole but the real question is, “why are Korean women golfers winning a LOT?”

What do I mean is that you look at the leaderboard of any LPGA tournament and you will see at least 1 or 2 Korean golfers at the top.

If you ask me, I can tell you that Korean women have always been genetically good at sports that require aiming.  Other than that, they do have rigurous golf schools designed to bring new professional athletes in Korea.  They don’t even have to go to school really, they just play golf all day long.  Now, I don’t think that’s the best way to raise a kid but if your kid’s winning LPGA tournaments at age 19, that’s not bad either.

Heck, I thought Michelle Wie was going to be women’s Tiger Woods.   Maybe she will one day but at this moment, all attention goes to In Bee Park, winner of this year’s U.S. Open and well deserved.

Annika Sorenstam and Jeong Jang Side-by-Side Swing Analysis

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Well, let’s take a look at Annika Sorenstam and Jeong Jang, both great players on the LPGA tour. I did actually get to meet Jeong Jang before she got famous….lol…

Annika probably has the best swing in the world out of men and women in my opinion. She has this effortless swing and it’s something I tell ya.

At takeaway, both players are about the same, Annika slightly more on-plane but both good at this point.

At the top of their iron swing, Jeong Jang and Annika both are about on-plane, with Jeong slightly more upright than Annika.

At impact, both players are almost identical, except Annika doing her “rotate the head” thing.

Actually, the “rotating head” of Annika is really helpful for transferring weight back to the left foot.

After impact, Annika is standing up pretty much, this is actually a great way to swing without putting any stress to your back.

But both players look great.

Take a look at how straight Annika’s whole body is at finish, almost standing up with a club.

Although both are great, Annika’s swing puts less stress on the back. I should have an e-book on how to do this shortly so stay tuuuuned folks.

Here’s both Jeong Jang and Annika Sorenstam’s Iron Swings in action:

Lorena Ochoa Driver Swing Analysis

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Lorena is a very good pro who exemplifies her game with her great swing.

Let’s take a closer look at how the champ does it.

At takeaway, Lorena is perfectly on-plane. A lot of the top pros are moving towards the 1-plane swing, which is following that red plane line.

At 3/4 backswing, Lorena gets slightly upright. This is still okay though.

At the top of her swing, Lorena is definitely slightly too upright and her club “goes across the line”, meaning it’s pointing right of the target. She will have to “re-route” her arms slightly to hit the ball square and if she doesn’t, she will hit a block to the right. This is something she could fix in the future. Greg Norman used to play like this for years and a lot of other tour pros do play “across” the line, but do as they say, not as they do.

Being slightly upright and over the line is actually not a bad thing. It’s easier to control than being slightly flat and under the line.

On the downswing, Lorena “drops” her arms to get the club back in position which is fine here.

At impact, Lorena looks perfect.

After impact, Lorena looks good too. Take a close look at how her elbows, arms, and hands have formed a “triangle”, this is really good stuff.

Conclusion

If Lorena Ochoa is winning every other tournament she plays, she shouldn’t change her swing but if she stops winning or has some time off to re-work her swing, I’d recommend to get slightly flatter at the top of her swing and that should automatically help the club point more parallel to to the target line instead of going “across-the-line” at the top of her swing.

Lorena’s takeaway looks reaaal good though, I’d recommend everyone to copy that.
